Downtown Fredericksburg
Historic Fredericksburg is full of structures that appear like they could be in a little German town since it was founded in 1848 by German immigrants. If possible, leave your car at home and enjoy the cozy atmosphere of this friendly town, thanks to the excellent pedestrian infrastructure found in downtown Fredericksburg. Walking up and down Main Street is a terrific way to spend a day or evening because you can find all the interesting shops, restaurants, and pubs there. There are also many of the city’s best tourist spots in the immediate vicinity.

Fredericksburg Brewing Company
The Fredericksburg Brewing Company is the perfect place to unwind with an icy beverage after a long day of touring. Since 1994, thirsty Texans have been able to enjoy craft beer at this inviting bar, which boasts the distinction of being the state’s first brewpub. You may load up on delicious pizza, burgers, salads, and hearty Geerman fare while you’re there.

There is a large air-conditioned Biergarten outside the pub, perfect for enjoying the warm Texas evenings. The pub itself is housed in a historic building dating back to the 1890s. Upstairs at the brewery’s Bed & Brew, guests can stay in comfortable, moderately priced guest rooms. There’s a bordello room, a wine-themed one, and everything in between.

Marktplatz
At first sight, the Marktplatz (Market Square) in Fredericksburg looks like any other park. However, this is not the case. Currently, it is the site of several of Fr edericksburg’s most well-known events, such as the weekly farmer’s market and the annual Oktoberfest. It contains a playground, restrooms, benches where you can relax with a beer/coffee, and, of course, the octagonal-shaped Vereins Kirche.

Holiday lights line the Marktplatz and Main Street throughout Christmas, putting even the grumpiest person in the holiday spirit.

Altstadt Brewery
In the spirit of our forefathers, our genuine German brewery is committed to brewing beers in the traditional style. Only water, hops, yeast, and barley—the “Big 4″—are used in the production of beers at Altstadt Brewery, following the Bavarian purity rule of 1516. Therefore, you can rest assured that the beer you receive is of the highest quality and contains no unnecessary additives.

Altstadt Brewery is a 24-acre complex with a vibrant restaurant serving hearty Bavarian fare on a series of long picnic tables reminiscent of a German beer hall and an outdoor Biergarten, exuding Old World charm. Tours of the brewery are offered at various times during the week, allowing visitors to gain insight into the brewing process and discover for themselves what makes their beer special.

The pints of beer are cheap, and on Thursdays, they are half-price! You can learn about current deals and get up-to-date store hours by visiting their website. Because it is frequently rented for special occasions, you may wish to call ahead to ensure that the space you need will be available. About a 10-minute drive from Fredericksburg, the brewery is situated on the world-famous Wine Road 290.

Rockbox Theater
Some of Fredericksburg’s most exciting activities start after dark. While there are several venues in which to take in a live performance, the Rockbox Theater on Ilano Street is among the most cherished in all of Honolulu. Cover bands, local musicians on the rise, and dueling piano acts all play live at this cozy venue. Please visit their website for additional information about the many events taking place each day of the week.

Vereins Kirche Museum
Unfortunately demolished in 1896, the historic Vereins Kirche on Fredericksburg’s Marketplatz served as the city’s town hall, church, school, and even fort. You can find an exciting museum on the history of intriguing Fredericksburg in a building that first opened in 1935.

Enchanted Rock State Natural Area
Enchanted Rock State Natural Area is a popular place to experience the outdoors in Texas because of its 11 miles of hiking trails, picnic areas, and campgrounds. The Enchanted Rock, a giant pink granite dome that towers 425 feet above the surrounding environment, serves as the park’s focal point.

One of the most popular things at the park is going up the Summit Trail to the dome. There are several stunning rock formations in the area, making for great photo ops and offering the chance to test one’s rock climbing mettle. At night, the sky becomes a glittering sea of stars that can only be appreciated by staring up at them.

It will take you about 20 minutes to drive the 18 miles to the park from Fredericksburg. If you plan on traveling on a weekend or a holiday weekend, it is highly recommended that you make reservations online in advance.

Pioneer Memorial Library
The Pioneer Memorial Library is located in a stunning stone tower on Main Street. The structure dates back to 1881 when it served as the Gillepsie County Courthouse, constructed by the renowned architect Alfred Giles. Before becoming a library in 1967, the building was used as a courthouse from 1903 to 1939.

Pontotoc Vineyard Weingarten
Pontotoc Vineyard Weingarten has you covered if you want to sample some of Texas’ renowned wines without leaving Fredericksburg. Picnic baskets stuffed with goodies produced with local food are provided to help satisfy your appetite in a relaxed setting. This place is perfect for a date or a chill afternoon with friends.

Wildseed Farms
Wildseed Farms is the United States’ largest operating wildflower farm. Its 200 acres of blooming fields are a popular tourist attraction. Bluebonnets, red corn poppies, sunflowers, and more are some of the farm’s flowers. Half a mile of trails allows visitors to come close to their favorite plants and flowers in the gardens.

Visit the vineyards and tasting room on-site. You can even head to the Brewbonnet Biergarten for some refreshing beer, free nibbles from the tasting tables, and delicious peach ice cream while enjoying the picturesque scenery.

Dietz Distillery
The Dietz Distillery focuses on manufacturing small-batch spirits from locally grown fruits using Old World distilling techniques. It offers tours so that visitors can learn more about the distillation process. Sip one of their handcrafted cocktails and admire the plush decor while you get to know the taste and the tone.

Next door to Das Peach Haus, a specialty food store, is where you’ll find the distillery. Once a log cabin, the store was replaced by a larger structure from the 1930s. It was then moved to its current location. If you’re going on a picnic or a trek in the Texas Hill Country, this is the perfect place to stock up on snacks to enjoy along the way!

Hill Country of Texas
The Texas Hill Country is endowed with stunning scenery, but there’s one more small gift from Mother Nature for which we should be grateful. Fredericksburg and the surrounding area have been making excellent wines for decades, earning the region the moniker “Texas Wine Country.” The site today features more than 45 wineries and tasting facilities.

Wine Tours and Shuttles
You may have a great time without worrying about taxis or DDs by booking a seat on one of the many wine-tasting tours or wine shuttles available. Having someone else drive means more people can join in on the fun as you visit many vineyards. A good outing is when everyone returns home unscathed, as we like to say.

Wine Bars & Tasting Rooms
You can sample wines directly from the source at many wineries lining the Texas wine trail. Slate Theory Winery is a high-end winery that oozes sophistication and offers an exceptional wine collection. Another favorite is the Tuscan-style Grape Creek Vineyards, which focuses on French and Italian varieties.
